WHY HOMESTEAD?

CHICKENS

There’s nothing better than going out to the chicken coop for fresh eggs in the morning. Not only will your chickens provide eggs, but they’re so much fun to watch. Chicken are known to be very personable and tend to be great with kids. Our chicken mascot, Bertha, is known to follow guests around the backyard trying to talk to them about her day. We raise our hens from when they hatch as baby chicks with plenty of love and interaction. In keeping with our goal of sustainability, chickens are amazing composters and will turn your table scraps into nutritious eggs.  Bertha’s favorite leftover is banana bread and watermelon.

Bees

Honey Bees are the true heroes around Bertha + Bee! Not only do these bees produce delicious HONEY, but they pollinate flowering plants, which ultimately means more summer fruits and vegetables in your garden! Bee populations have been declining at an alarming rate and the world needs them to keep the food circle going. There is no better feeling than growing your own food and watching the bees help make it happen. So let us help you learn to keep bees!

Butterflies

Save the butterflies! Monarch butterflies are such an important part of the environment and the pollination cycle, but have been placed on the US Fish & Wildlife service’s endangered species list. Bertha + Bee is committed to doing our part to help keep the monarch butterfly population strong. Watching the side cycle of the butterflies transform from caterpillar to beautiful monarch is an amazing opportunity. Let us teach you how to help save the monarchs and we will donate one butterfly bush to our local high school for their butterfly project.
