RAISE. HARVEST. HATCH.

WHAT WE DO

Bertha + Bee is a full-service backyard homesteading operation that connects clients with a variety of options for raising chickens, harvesting honey and/or hatching monarch butterflies. We promote sustainable environments and educate our clients about the amazing benefits of backyard homesteading. We work on a flexible seasonal schedule from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Are you ready (but maybe a little nervous) to take the plunge?

Whether you decide to try homesteading for just a month or commit to the whole summer, Bertha + Bee will work with your family to create a manageable and fun experience. We provide everything needed from teaching how to identify a monarch butterfly to setting up your chicken coop and beehives. Simply put, we make it easy.

WHO WE ARE

Catherine Abbate lived in Newport for many chicken filled summers and would head back to New York City every September. At the end of each summer season, it was tough to find someone to take care of the chickens during the off season - her friend Teresa always saved the day helping to find temporary homes for the chickens. Eventually Catherine moved to Newport full time and began tending year-round to her growing flock of feathered friends, naturally adding the bees and butterflies to make her pollinator pathway complete! When she realized she had become the go-to friend to help in the off-season, Bertha + Bee was born.
